Path of Exile Item Upgrades The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading the performance of them. They can be a fantastic source of damage, more AD or even more affixes. Utilizing more jewels in a move will make it feel smoother and is typically done for aesthetic reasons. The jewels also improve performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not damage them. In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades, the player can also acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be exchanged, however they are not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded at the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis, cannot be swapped out, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Trinkets Trinkets can be used to give your character many small, but valuable, benefits. They are available in the starter area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained through vendors and after completing road interaction. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers. The first trinket a player can unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but valuable boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. The player can then collect necklaces, amulets, and rings in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be used in any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and only works with certain kinds of trinkets. These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This allows the hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the lack of a strong slots in the team or talent tree which would normally be filled by the hero's best stats. In general, trinket upgrades should prioritize BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace soon.
